The Best Tips on How to Protect Your Skin and Hair While Traveling

It is hard to maintain our usual skincare routine when we travel. It is inconvenient to carry around numerous products, especially when we're heading to a new climate and we're not sure how our skin will react. Here are some tips to keep in mind while planning your next trip! We're sure these tips will help you plan a customized skincare routine that will help your skin stay healthy and glowing during your travels.

✔ As always, you should drink a plentiful amount of water on flights. While you can’t take water bottles through security, you’ll be able to buy water and other drinks at the gate. And, unless you’re flying on Norwegian Air, you can ask for complimentary water on the plane!

While traveling, we also suggest that you pack a reusable water bottle for your daily adventures, so that you don’t get dehydrated, especially with the increase in physical activities and sudden change in climate.

✔ Make sure you take sunscreen and a backup supply of sunscreen! Do not forget to reapply sunscreen every few hours, especially if you’re traveling to a place that is hit directly by the sun’s rays, or where there is very little natural shade. The higher the SPF, the stronger the protection.

You could also take an after-sun treatment, such as Aloe Vera. That way, if you do get a burn, you can treat your skin immediately. This is ideal if you’re going to the desert or the beach.

✔ Try to avoid wearing heavy makeup on a flight, especially if it is a long-haul flight. Shorter flights (an hour or so) are okay. Try to avoid foundation and heavy eye makeup, and instead, just stick to concealer and some powder.

✔ Take a pack of facial wipes with you on the airplane and keep them in your purse throughout your travels. If you get sweaty, such as after a hike, or under the hot sun, keep wiping that sweat away, as it can be full of impurities that can lead to breakouts. A natural sweat is good for the skin, just make sure it doesn’t stay on your face too long.

✔ Take a facial spray to keep your face hydrated and cool. There are many different kinds of sprays on the market, and some of them are perfect for travel. They’re easy to use, easy to pop in your bag, and you can spray them on your face, neck and décolletage whenever you feel a little dry or overheated. ✔ Take dry shampoo with you, just in case you find yourself between hair washes and you need to freshen up your hair quickly and you're without easy access to a shower.

✔ Take combination products with you, such as 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner, or a cleansing gel that can be used both as face wash and shampoo. The Honest Company makes many products that can be used in several ways. They're perfect for travel because 2-in-1 products take up less room in your suitcase.

✔ A micellar water is an extremely versatile product to travel with, as it can be used to remove makeup, clean your skin and hands, quickly wipe a spot off your bag or shoes, clean your children’s faces, and, most importantly, if it explodes in your bag, the clear liquid has no scent or colour, meaning that is it damage-proof. The best micellar water for travel is Bioderma’s Sensibio H20 in travel size.

✔ Speaking of explosions, make sure you have a waterproof cosmetics bag, and that some cosmetics are individually-wrapped. And remember, if they break, they are replaceable. You just don’t want them to damage anything else in your suitcase that you may need.

✔ And lastly, make sure you moisturize every day and night in order to keep your skin hydrated and protected!
