Our Favourite International Skincare Brands

Women all over the world are loyal to their skincare routines, as we all appreciate a clear and healthy complexion. Here, we've compiled a list of our favourite brands from France, Iceland, Korea, Sweden and the United Kingdom, each with their own excellent products for you to try.

These first five brands will be especially appreciated in the (never-ending) winter and cold season.

France

France is one of the best countries in the world for skincare products. In Paris, for example, there is a pharmacie on every street that sells the country's most popular products. Bioderma is one of France's most well known brands; it's famous for its Sensibio H20 Micellar Water, a fragrance-free, colourless makeup remover that cleanses your face quickly when wiped by a soaked cotton pad. It is also rinse-free, meaning, theoretically, that you do not need to cleanse afterwards (although we recommend that you always double-cleanse in order to be sure that you've removed all traces of makeup).

Bioderma is one of our favourite French skincare brands, however, because they have many different product ranges, each based on a different skincare type and its needs. We love their Atoderm Lèvres lip balm, which is inexpensive and hydrating, and if you apply it on your lips before bed, you'll wake up with still-moist lips in the morning! Their facial moisturizers are also incredibly lightweight and delicate, and they rarely lead to breakouts, even for the most sensitive skin.

♥ For those with difficult skin, especially while in transition between seasons, we recommend that you give Bioderma products a try. Our favourite product is Bioderma Sébium Hydra, a gentle moisturizer that will soothe and hydrate dry skin, especially for those who have noticed weak and/or irritated skin (such as after treatment).

Iceland

While Sarah Kugelman, the founder of Skyn Iceland, is technically not Icelandic, there is no denying that her vegan, cruelty-free skincare brand is a product of its namesake. Skyn Iceland is inspired by Iceland's landscape and natural resources; it's free of harsh chemicals and contains no parabens, and all of its products have been influenced by Sarah Kugelman's travels and experiences there.

The brand is targeted towards those who are stressed-out, as anxiety can have a tiring effect on our skin. The products sound cool and refreshing, such as the Nordic Skin Peel, thin pads soaked in natural ingredients that, when applied to your face, slough away dead skin and leave your complexion fresh, the Arctic Face Oil, for smoothness and hydration, and the Pure Cloud Cream, a lightweight, effective moisturizer.

♥ We recommend you try one of Skyn Iceland's kits to start, such as the Winter Rehab kit, which hydrates and replenishes harsh winter-affected skin, or the Skin Hangover Kit, which will help to revive and restore your tired skin and eyes.

Korea

Just like France, Korea is known for its numerous excellent skincare brands. One of our favourites is Dr. Jart+, which utilizes the most advanced skincare technology. Dr. Jart+ is known for its sheet masks, which can used as a serum, its gentle and hydrating moisturizers, and its BB creams, which are sold in one shade that naturally adapts to the skintone it is applied to. The BB creams also last a long time, as you only need a little bit product at once, since it goes a long way. The best part is that the BB creams combine the benefits of skincare and makeup into one product, so they treat your skin while simultaneously balancing your skin tone and covering up blemishes and imperfections.

♥ Besides the BB creams, we recommend that you try the Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Water-Max Sleeping Facial, which is designed to be applied after your moisturizer and washed off in the morning. This immensely popular product provides an extra layer of moisture, and makes sure that the products you've applied underneath are fully absorbed.

Sweden

Launched in 2007, Estelle & Thild has become one of Scandinavia's most popular skincare brands. The creator of the all-organic line, Pernilla Rönnberg, wanted to create products that would be gentle enough for her two daughters, Estelle and Mathilde, to use. The brand has an extensive range of products that are formulated to suit every skin type and skin concern, and thanks to their sustainable and eco-friendly principles, they are very popular worldwide among fans of organic beauty.

♥ We recommend you try the BioCleanse Detox Duo, which is described as a pore purifying detox experience that will uncover your skin's true glow. The BioCleanse formula is full of Black Elderflower, a natural ingredient that will decongest and detoxify your skin. When used together, these products will help to reveal your complexion's ideal radiance.

United Kingdom

Many skincare brands are equally popular in both the United Kingdom and North America, but one brand, Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare, has yet to be loved as widely in North America as it is in the UK. Liz Earle sticks to the basics: she does not want you to buy multiple products, but suggests that you stick to three products per day: cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Based on the Isle of Wight, Liz Earle classifies her brand as a British staple that utilizes the gentlest ingredients that will leave you with a superior cleanse and polish.
♥ We could only recommend that, of course, you first try Liz Earle's award-winning Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. It has a light scent, goes on like a thick cream, and as you massage it into your skin with Liz Earle's 100% cotton cloths, the cleanser will also exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells from its surface, giving you a 'polished' look. It won't take you long to realize why this cleanser is one of the most popular in Great Britain.
Let us know if you've tried any of these products and tell us your favourites, and keep an eye out for Part II of this list, which will focus on brands from countries with warmer and drier climates!
